One of the best things about developing an audience engagement product like Nudge is finding out uses for it that you weren't expecting. As we've built all of the features and functionality into Nudge - The Nudge Factor, Nudge Clubs, 3rd party integration such as Moves tracking, and backend data and market research tools, there have been several uses our clients have brought up that we haven't thought about.
One such revelation happened back in January when a client was singing the praises of Nudge and their company was experiencing a high rate of engagement with the app. They then mentioned another reason Nudge was so useful for them - it was right in front of our faces but we hadn't seen it yet -
"We love Nudge because it helps us identify company influencers that might not be in management positions. This is very important for identifying future company leaders."
It turns out that companies are realizing the benefits of surfacing influencers across an organization. Here's a few reasons why:
-
Influencers can boost morale, increase adoption rates of company programs and policies, and reduce disruption and fragmentation of groups.
-
Influencers will be more in touch with employee/manager conversations, which allows managers to be proactive and address small issues before they turn into something larger.
-
Influencers can be an informal conduit to deliver important information, topics, or changes from management to the front lines.
Forbes.com recently reported on ONA, a tool that was used to identify company influencers during the merging of two large pharmaceutical companies:
"The surprise? This amazing tool identified the most important influencers — who were clearly not the five employees regarded as “critical change agents” by management of the pharma companies. ONA data revealed that those employees selected by management did not, in fact, have strong influence on colleagues.
Who was right? According to Jeppe, “The change agent identified by the ONA had seven times more influence among colleagues and, in addition, held a central ‘broker position’ between two clusters in the organization. Further analysis showed that none of the five management-appointed change agents were among the top 20 influencers.
This is a critical discovery for the future of the company and its productivity. It will influence work streams as well as how and to whom leadership and others communicate.”
